Book Kindle: “You don’t really read a book until you give it to another reader,” said writer Donnalyn Miller. Here’s how you can share your e-books with your family and friends.
Although I never considered myself a book lover as a young adult, when I got my first Kindle years ago, I found I couldn’t put it down.
The Kindle is a great way to keep all your books in one package. A handy device that iss lighter than a tablet and relatively inexpensive, the Kindle makes it very easy to buy, borrow and keep your books safe.
There are two simple ways to share a Kindle book: lend it to someone else or share it through your family library. We’ll cover both options, so you can choose which one best suits your needs.
Lending a Kindle Book
There are some books you can lend to other users after you buy them. Unfortunately, many books don’t support lending. The publisher sets the lending terms for their books, so the lending period varies – but is often around 14 days. If the book isn’t accepted as a loan within seven days, it will be returned to you.
Step 1: Go to your Amazon account
Use the mobile app or a web browser to log in to your Amazon account, then access your account settings by clicking Account & Lists at the top right of the page.
Step 2: Click Content & Devices
Go to Content & Devices on Amazon; this will give you access to settings for your purchased devices and content like books, apps, videos, and music.
Step 3: Select Books
Select Books from your available content. This will bring up a list of your purchased and borrowed books.
Step 4: Find the book you want to share and click More Actions
The list of your purchased books has options for each on the right side of the page. Clicking More Actions brings up options on a dropdown menu.
Step 5: If your book can be loaned, click Loan this title
On the More Actions menu, click Loan this title to loan it to someone else. Next, you’ll be asked to fill out a form with the recipient’s information:
Next, you’ll be taken to a form where you can enter your borrowing details for the recipient’s email address, name, who it came from, and a personalized message.
Not all books can be loaned, so if your book doesn’t have an option to loan this title, there’s an option to try sharing it through your family library.
Sharing with Family Library
An alternative option to sharing a book is to do so through the family library. This can be done in the same actions menu that you reach by following steps 1-4 above.
Step 6: Under More actions, click Manage Family Library
If there isn’t an option to lend this title on the More actions dropdown menu, click Manage Family Library instead.
Step 7: Select a person to share the book with
Your Family Library consists of your Amazon Family members.
When you select a person to share the book with, click the yellow Change button to share the book with them. You can add or remove books from your Family Library at any time.
